NordicH2ubs investigates the integration of hydrogen hubs into the Nordic energy system and establishing their relation to Europe. NordicH2ubs team engages in robust energy system models and capacity expansion models, such as EMPIRE, for strategic European long-term planning of hydrogen supply and infrastructure.
NordicH2ubs link capacity expansion models with detailed operational Nordic models, like EnergyPlan, and detailed infrastructure models, namely EMX, crafting a methodological framework that is open-source and navigable via the SPINE toolbox. This framework will delve into investigating pathways and analysing the prospects of H2 uptake based on the NordicH2ubs case studies. Moreover, NordicH2ubs projects and analyses Nordic hydrogen demand scenarios up until 2040, assessing their impact on the Nordic energy system through meticulous energy system analysis using varied modelling tools available in SPINE. In short, NordicH2ubs emphasis spans the investment aspect and the crucial cross-sectorial interactions, intertwining investment optimisation, demand-side infrastructure investments, and energy system simulations on an hourly basis. See below a description of the Energy System Model tools.
